Interview of kihyun teacher

I intervewed ki hyun my favorite physics teacher.
First, I made a bow, said asked him to tell me a little about himself.
He introduced himself saying that he is a physics teacher at Changwon Science High school.
Can you find where I am? I seem like a flower. May be you can'f find me easily because
I resemble the flowers around me.
So I asked him my first question about when he met his spouse.
According to his story, his spouse is also teacher. When he came to Masan, he played badminton. The gym teacher thought he was a good person and introduced him to a pretty and great teacher. At first, he thought she was very naturaly beautiful because she went to field study with their students not decorated. Thanks to her natural appearance, he could approach to her. So, now he lives with her.

Next, I asked him if he enjoys his school life. He thinks teaching physics at Changwon Science High School is a glory thing. It is rewarding and pleasant to teach his major's subject and his knowledge. I know, he has to go to work early, leave work late, come school on the weekend, prepare for class a lot, and lead the reseach activities. For him, there is so much work to do. Sometimes his jobs are physically demanding. As a teacher, he is very fruitful. So, it was interesting. He wants to stay here for a long time.

Then, I asked him what his favorite memory from his life is.
The most impressive memory to him lately was the moment that his son was born. His son was born in a hospital, came out and was crying. The first cry was impressive to him. It was touching to him. His heart was full.

Then, I inquired when he thought that Jowon is most adorable. It has been a year since Jowon was born. He can say three words; mom, papa, and babba. He says papa the most. When the phone rings, he says papa.

Finally, I asked him What his life’s goal for the future is.
He doesn’t think about his life goal earnestly yet. First as a physics teacher, he hopes to be a great physics teacher and help the students, by leading them. The science school is an important resource to become a great teacher he wants. He hopes as a parent, to have more babies and to be a great parent. He wants happy family and happy students.

After the interview with him, I got to know ki hyun teacher's thinking and was impressed with his story. I would like to resemble his sunny disposition.

Humans of Changwon Science High School - Kim Tae Hee

"Why did I choose mathematics? Just because..."

I interviewed teacher Kim Tae-hee.
First, I asked about his life at CSHS. His personal time has decreased after he started teaching at CSHS. He likes traveling, but he couldn’t travel after January. However, He doesn't feel frustrated. At school, he can feel pleasures which he can’t feel when he travels. I think we can always find happy elements anywhere. If we can't feel happy when we work or do other things, then there are problems in our minds. After changing our minds, we can see happy elements or good points.
Second, I asked about his life in other schools before he came to CSHS. He compared them with us. Lots of students who studied at his previous school had single fathers or mothers, or only grandparents, but our school students are not. So, he think our school students are privileged. On the other hand, we entered this school because we studied hard, so he is proud. His face was distorted when he said these things. I think it was because of the thought of previous school's students. I was so sad when his face was distorted.
Third, I asked about his life like when he was young. He was born and grown up in Kim-hae. He is in his early 30’s now, and he was able to see some characteristics of successful people who are his age. They had enough ability, but more importantly, faithfulness and patience. When he was a high school student, there were a few friends who were outstanding, but only friends who were good at self-regulation achieved success today. Through this, I found self-regulation is very important in our life. Usually, I can self-regulate myself moderately well, but I need to be better at self-regulation.
Fourth, I asked about the reason why he became a teacher. When he was a high school student, his 2nd grade teacher and 3rd grade teacher died early. Until that time, he didn’t think about teaching as a job, but after this, he thought and considered the influence of a teacher. This made him change his career. Before he chose to be a teacher, he wanted to help others. A teacher can also help others, especially students, so he chose to be one. Maybe his process of being teacher is unusual. Most teachers have wanted to be a teacher when they were young. Through this, I could realize that all actions or thinking that we do are relevant. We can think of bad circumstance as the process to achieve our purpose. Then, the situation can be seen better than before.
Last, I asked if he liked mathematics when he was young. Surprisingly, he didn’t like mathematics when he was young, especially from 12 to 15 years old. Instead of mathematics, he liked science, but at highschool, he found the fun of mathematics. He thinks it was because of the difference of middle school and high school mathematics. On the other hand, he always liked science. When he was young, there were lots of boys who wanted to be scientists, and he also wanted to be one. I was curious about why he chose mathematics instead of science, so I asked him about this. The answer was that it was too hard of a question. In the sequel, the reason is that he just chose.

During the interview, I thought Tae-hee’s answer always wandered off my questions a little. He says ‘Um…….’ often. However, he talked about good things a lot, so I never minded.

Humans of CSHS

He said that do not be sad or disappointed if you are worse than others and work on being positive.

I interviewed Han Sung-Chul teacher. He came our school in this year and he teaches geology for the first grade. I asked why he become an earth science teacher. The Earth science was an easy subject for him, so when he was a high school student, he chose earth science. Then, he majored in earth science education at university. One more reason was because earth science is a broad subject. He wanted to study the universe though he is only a little human being. I think he is a humble, diligent person and he knows about himself.
I asked which one is more important for students : to go to a better university or to be happy at CSH. He thinks it is different for each student. If his or her goal is to go to a good university, the university is more important for the student. If the student wants to enjoy the present, then high school life is more important because it is their own life and they should live by their free will. I asked then what kind of student he was. The present was more important for him. He tried to find what he wanted to do, and it was more important than university. He doesn’t know if he will like his job in the future, but he is satisfied now.
His favorite sport is basketball, but he has never played basketball at CSH. I asked why he doesn’t. He answered that the students are very bright, so the teachers should study hard. Also, modern science is changing constantly. If teachers have old facts, it isn’t useful for students, So he doesn’t have enough time to exercise. I think he is passionate and hard-working. He studies hard to teach students well.
I asked what he thinks about students at CSH. He thinks that they are passionate and their eyes are shiny, but sometimes they are too focused on results. Actually, the process is as important as the result, especially if you are a science high school student. He said we should think more about the process. So, he thinks we should behave with pride because we belong to a science high school. Most of us are good. Therefore, if someone is little worse than others, he or she doesn’t need to be sad or disappointed. He wants students to not regret attending this school and work on being positive. He knows what is important for us and what we should do. Also, I think that he knows why students feel stress, and he wants students to be happy.

Humans of CSHS

I asked him What is your favorite food?
He says he loves 김치찌개 which is a spicy korean soup. He makes it by himself at home. He eat it in the morning when he goes to school. He loves it because it is good for his health. I also like 김치찌개. My mother usually make it. but It will be good to make 김치찌개 by myself. I agree that 김치찌개 is healthy food. because it has many vegetables.
I asked him What students do you like?
He says he likes active students. He wants the students to participate well.
Also he wants creative students like Woo seung joo. The active students make him being happy. I should be more active in class. I learned that participate in class can inspire the teacher and I can learn more.
I asked him What do you want for the 1st graders?
He says he just want 1st graders to be sincere in class. Students should respect the teachers. Students should also concentrate in class. I think my home room teacher will also wants students to be sincere in class. So I should do my homework well. I deeply reflect on my self.
I asked him What is your Favorite sports?
He says he is crazy about swimming. He is good at freestyle swimming. He learned how to swim 1 year ago. He usually goes the swimming center and swims with the coach. He knows that swimming makes him stronger. I could know that swimming makes our heart stronger and make the body slim. I should try when I go to university.
I asked him Do you regret being teacher?
He says he doesn't regret being teacher. He is satisfied with teaching students.
He decided to be the teacher when he graduate university.
He loves students. I learned that I should find a job which I want to. I think teacher is great. I respect him not to get angry to the students.

Humans of CSHS - Lee Se-hee

To CSHS students ; If you try, you can do it. Cheer up, and please enjoy your meal!

I interviewed the school dietitian at Changwon Science High School. Her name is Lee Se-hee. I will tell you about her story.

She didn't have a clear dream when she was a teenager and just wanted to be a teacher. She enjoyed eating, so she had become interested in nutrition. She searched for jobs about nutrition and got to know about school dietitian positions. She majored in food and nutrition and completed a course in education to become a school dietitian.

She said it was a little difficult to come to school on the first day at CSHS because it is too far from her house. It takes about 40 minutes by a car, so she couldn't often come at breakfast time. She felt a harmonious, more friendly and quiet atmosphere during mealtime because CSHS has few students. She likes it better as it takes only 20 minutes rather than the 40 minutes meal time at her previous school.

She said nutrition is the most important when making a menu and taste is as important as nutrition because if a school dietitian plans nutritionally balanced menus, it won't help if students don't eat. Usually, students’ favorite foods and teachers’ favorite foods are different. So, there is a conflict between different foods. She has to make three menus per day at CSHS and she try not to overlap menus, but there might be a few mistakes. She asked to be excused.

Her most memorable school memory was when she first worked at an elementary school in Gimhae. It is an isolated school, and it had 150 students. It was so cute when small children made chewing motions. She was able to become more friendly with teachers because there were only a few teachers at the school.

Her motto is, "If you try, you can do it." She thinks CSHS students are very nice and hopes all students will go to the university that they want. Enjoy your meal!

Humans of CSHS

I interviewed the principal. The principal spoke about various stories with me. That time was a pleasant experience for me.
I asked him to tell me about his first day at CSHS. He said that it was a very busy and befuddled day. He met two superintendents of education before he was appointed as principal. He recieved various gifts, and then he met teachers and students at CSHS. He remembered that the day was really, really busy. Then, I told him that just hearing it made me feel complicated.
The next thing, I asked was about his favorite memory. He said that three weeks after he decided to get married, he got married to a strange lady. She and he met at a wedding hall for the third time. I was surprised, after which I asked him how he became a good husband. He answered with a laugh and said you must be greedless and inexpectant to be good husband, but fortunately, his wife likes him. Sometimes he wants to escape from his wife, his wife likes him very much, and he is grateful for his wife.
The last question asked him how he wants to change CSHS in the future. He said that most of all our school students should be happy. Teachers are using differing ways more and more to evaluate students. So, classes should give students more opportunities to take part in science. By doing so, students can study meaningfully.

After the interview I thought that the was a very inspiring teacher . I felt greatful and had a lot of respect for him.
#Thank you students of CSHS. I like it!!

Interview with Park Jae Hyun teacher!!

I don't want to photograped my face.

On May 28th, I interviewed Park Jae Hyun teacher who is my homeroom teacher. I talked to him for 22 minutes, quite a long time.
My first question was about the most memorable moment in his life. The teacher answered that in his life the most memorable moment was when his son was born, but while teaching, he said he can't use the word 'the most' because he feels every year students make fun memories with him. So, he thinks now is on enduring memory for him.
My second question was about when he came to CSHS for the first time. He said when he did his first class with our CSHS 3rd grade class, he was nervous. However, the good thing was that 20 or 21 of students were looking at his gestures and all of his movements. Sometimes we nodded or clapped ours hands after the class finished. Do you remember? The teacher said at that time, it made him proud.
My third question was about when he felt stressed while teaching us. He said while he taught us, he thought his role was teaching math, and also to 'care' in math. He knows how to overcome the slump more than us, so when we are stressed, we can lean on him. Also when the teacher feel stressed, he can lean to us. He feel stressed, when we are weak. If the students are happy, they talk very much and have fun, but when they are stressed, they are droopy.
The next question was made by my friends. I asked why he always take so much milk from the cafeteria. He said he drinks milk and also his son 권률 likes it. At first, he wondered why he had to do this, but he can't stay long with his son so he expresses his mind to his son this way. Milk is an important link far our teacher and his son.
My fifth question was about which high school he will go to after CSHS. Will it be a science high school or normal high school? He sai, he loved to study math so a science high school is good for him, but there's a lot of work to do. He think he have to prepare both of high school.
For my last question, I asked when his son is the cutest. He answered it is when his son wakes up and says "Daddy, wake up, cock-a-doodle-doo" with a kiss on the cheek. It is very cute and lovely.
After the interview, I thought, that he was a real teacher. He really loves to study math, always thinking about how to teach the students and also how to make those study who don't want to study. Also, he is a good daddy in his family. He loves 권률, his son, always thinking about him. I want to be a teacher like him.

Humans of CSHS - Choi Bok-Kyun

It is the first time in my teacher life to work in a school with girls.
This will be my 12th year as a teacher!

I interviewed our Korean teacher 'Choi Bok-Kyun'. I asked her about her first day of school at CSHS. It is the first time in her teacher life to work in a school with girls, so she was excited. She said she feels that CSHS is alive. I was surprised because even though this will be her 12th year as a teacher, she is teaching girls in school first time.
Did you see the label that says 'off limits during the test period' on the office door? I feel that this expression is strict. However, she had a label that said 'you come to the office' and explained the feelings of teachers when students barge in the office. It is very funny because she use title of the drama 'You Come From a Star which is very popular. I asked why she had that label. She answered that she likes humor, and if she puts to humor in the message, people will remember it more. I felt that she lives with humor, and I expect to see another label.
I asked about her hobbies. She answered that music is her life. When she is sad and pleased, music is always like a friend. She said that genres of music that people like are different, but good music has been loved for all time. She wants to be loved like good music. She likes the classical music of Bach such as 'Air on the G String', which is slow. She wants her life to flow like this music, so her motto is life is Adagio. She loved art to the extent that she used art as her motto. She also said she draws. She cultivates her mind with drawing.
Finally, she said CSHS' students should become happy person and have an upright character. Most of all, She said that personality is important.

Humans of CSHS - Vice principal

I interviewed vice principal.(sorry vice principal.. I don't have clean photo..)

He said, "I wants to make CSHS the best school."

I interviewed the vice principal. For the interview, I arranged 5 questions.
First I asked about the most impressive student at Gyeongnam Science High School (GSHS) when he worked at GSHS. He talked about a girl student. When she started GSHS in 2003, he was her homeroom teacher. He said, she was good at studying when she was in middle school, but she got a boyfriend and her score decreased. After the first semester of her 3rd grade year, her parents found out about it. Her score was bad and she couldn't enter the best college. The vice principal e-mailed her and said I think can go better college if you study hard. If you want to have success, study hard as you can. After 1 year, she entered Seoul National University and now, she studies at Stanford University. After this question, I knew that he really loves his students.
Second, I asked what he thought about our school life, such as the dormitory. He said that our dormitory room is very nice. He thinks it is similar to a nice college dormitory room. After this question, I recognized that he is very interested in our school life. Sometimes, he sleeps in our dormitory room, and that is proof.
Third, I asked about the subject which he liked most during high school age. He said he liked world history, and physics. It was an unforeseen answer. He was a math teacher, so I guessed that best subject was mathematics.
Fourth, I asked about his thoughts on our school students attitude. Some students study hard, but some students sleep or focus on other things. He said he feels regret. When he was a high school student, he studied very hard. Sometimes he slept in the hospital because his father was sicked. Now, our school has a very nice environment, so he wants us to study harder. After this question, I thought he likes us a lot. I think it means that he has concern for us.
Finally, I asked about his goal. He said he wants to make CSHS the best school. He wants to make a happy school for students. For example, after we graduate, if we love our school a lot, we must want to visit our school sometimes. He emphasized that our school should be a happy school for students.

I always thought the vice principal was very authoritative, but after the interview, I recognized that my thinking was wrong. He loves our school and our school students.

3205 Chaebin

My hobby is making clothes. 90% of my clothes are all handmade by me!!

I chose to interview Searona Kim, my English teacher. I have had classes with her for 3 years, but I didn’t know her very well. However, I’m glad to I got to know her better through this interview.
First I asked her about the most important value in her life. The answer she gave me was authenticity. She said thinking about how she’s going to live is much more important than what others think about her. Because of what she said, I thought that I should lead my own life with my own thoughts.
My second question was about her favorite hobby. Her hobby is making clothes. 90% of her clothes are all handmade by her. They are all very well made. I also like to make things by myself, so I found something in common with my teacher. That was a novelty.

My third question asked if she had dream in her school days. She answered she had no specific dream at that time. When she was a student, teacher was one of the job she didn’t want, but she became a great teacher. It is amazing. Also, she told me that it is hard for students to have a perfect dream, so I should think about what I really want to do in my life. Because of what she said, I should think deeply about my talent and what I want to do in the future.

My fourth question asked if she had a mentor. Her mentor is her father. The reason was that he was always on her side while being objective at the same time. During the interview, I felt her affection and respect to her father, so I was very touched.

For my last question I asked her to say something to the 3rd grade students. She said “think about things in the long run”. This way we can have hope in hard times, and we can have a humble attitude in good times. Her comments really touched me. I should really think and live like that. The interview with Searona teacher was a very valuable time.

Lee hanyeon interview

[I was always at the top of my major, Of course!]

I interviewed teacher Son Semin. He has been my homeroom teacher since last year, but I don't know his personality. I wanted to know about his life, so I decided to interview him. First, I asked him about his major. He answer that he completed a biology education major at teacher training school. Second, I wondered if he did things like us, and asked him about his university life, He said that he was a very nice student and he was always at the top of his major. He didn't say this serious, so I think he was a joking. He spoke very lightly. Third, I asked him about his teacher certification examination. Almost all teachers have their own story about taking a certification examination, So I asked him about his own story. He said when he took the test, it was easier than usual, so he passed the test easily. He played computer games 'Kart Rider' when he prepared for the test. He said that he played a little bit, but Ukhyeong teacher said he didn't. Fourth, I asked him about his most memorable experience. His most memorable experience is right now, he said. It took about 6 minutes to answer this was maybe because he had never thought about that. Finally, I asked him about his future plans, and he said he will teach students for as long as possible. Also, he will stop teaching if there is better chance for a job. He looks he doesn't like his job that much. He answered very quickly for every question. Every answer was shorter than 3 sentences. I think he answered common answers, even if he joked.

Humans of Changwon Science High School - Mr. Jo Jae Jung

"My saddest moment was when My father passed away. I feel very sad every time that I am reminded that I cannot see him anymore. Now it's been 10 years and It's kind of fading away from me. The present fills out the emptiness of the past grief, you know."

Mr. Jo Jae Jung teaches Korean in CSHS. It's my first year learning from him, but I learned a lot from him. I interviewed him because he is always full of things to talk about.
First, I asked him if he could express his life as a phrase, and he talked about an old book called I have stood too long and walked too long. He said he has stood too long and walked too long sacrificing for his family and students more than himself. I learned that the life sacrificing for ones work and family is beautiful, so I should be less selfish and work hard on everything I do.
Next, I asked him about the happiest moment of his life. He said that the best thing was when his parents were alive, when his kids laughed happily, and when nothing goes wrong. He said that the happiest moment was when he realized this. I felt very sorry for him, and I thought about my parents, too. I was also impressed by the fact that he does not live greedily.
Next, I asked him about the saddest moment of his life. He said that it was when his father passed away. It has been 10 years, and he feels sad every time he is reminded of the fact that he cannot see him anymore. However, he could feel that this feeling has become diluted. He said that the present fills the emptiness of past grief. I was very touched when he said, the present fills out the emptiness of past grief. It is important to deal with ones own grief, and I learned a lot from him.
My next question was what he would do if he could go back to his youth. He said when he was in elementary school, he was bullied. Then, the kids in his town were divided into two: the kids who played with him, and the others. They actually had a fight one Saturday afternoon beside a graveyard on the top of a mountain. He and the opposing groups leader fought, but they were just glaring at each other. The fight ended like that. He said that he would want to settle that fight if he could go back.
Then, I asked him about his favourite thing at CSHS. He said that the best thing is the fact that students actually listen to what he is saying. He also likes that he can choose what to teach. I felt that I should participate in his classes, and all the other classes, because it is what teachers really feel happy about.
My final question was about his hobby. He said that he likes sports. He likes to do Hapkido, but he also likes badminton, volleyball and soccer. He said he does not have time to do these nowadays because he has too much work to do. He said that he likes to exercise at least one hour a day.

From this interview, I could feel that he lives very well. I was kind of ashamed about my behaviour. I feel that there is a lot of things to learn from an elder.

INTERVIEW OF COURTNEY LEAH HILL

INTERVIEW OF COURTNEY LEAH HILL

The person I interviewed was Courtney Leah Hill, our foreign English teacher from the USA.
"I'm just giving you a little taste of my energy right now. Look how cool I am.
Do you know who I am? I am Courtney Leah Hill, the coolest woman in the world."
I first asked her about the first day when she became a teacher. Being a teacher at CSHS was actually her first experience as a teacher. She told me that her first day at CSHS was amazing. When she came to Korea, she was so tired because of the jetlag and what’s even worse is that she didn’t have place to sleep. So she slept in the dorm. The next morning she had a silent breakfast with two male teachers.
Then, I asked her about her first boyfriend. She met her boyfriend in the 3rd grade of middle school. They dated for a summer vacation and then broke up. However, they are now very good friends. He asked Courtney to be a bridesmaid of his future wife next year on his wedding.
When I asked her about the project that she is going to do when she goes back to USA, and she told me that she’ll go to South Africa to participate in a project making water filters. She seemed so passionate and happy about her job, and she was so excited when she said this to me.
My third question was “Tell me about the most impressive experience” Courtney thought for a second and told me about her sister, Crystal’s boyfriend. Crystal’s boyfriend was a dumb and whatever he said was so bad. The best part about him was that he was a little bit funny. Courtney couldn’t understand why her sister dated him. Fortunately crystal broke up with him.
For my last question, I said, ”Your major is actually an environmental engineer, but you’ve experienced being a teacher. Which do you prefer, and why?” She preferred being an environmental engineer. She liked being a teacher too, but she liked her job more because she wanted to be an environmental engineer for rest of her life.
I then wanted to ask her if she would suggest that students experience being a foreign teacher in another country. She said that her experience was so great because it is a good opportunity to learn how other people live. She thinks that it is important to understand that different isn’t a strange thing.

Interviewing Courtney, I had few things to think about deeply. Courtney had a significant future goal and she recently graduated her university with the major, ‘Environmental engineering’. She likes her major and she is passionate about it. However, I haven’t even been to university yet and I think I don’t have that clear future goal yet too. I don’t mean that my situation is bad because I’m still young. But I want to have a major which I can enjoy like Courtney does.
